The Total Sanitation and Sanitation Marketing project (TSSM), is an innovative initiative with the goal to generate sanitation demand at scale and increase the supply of sanitation products and services. The project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in partnership with WSP, is being implemented in Tanzania, India and Indonesia.

Today 2.6 billion people in poor countries lack access to hygienic sanitation services, a crisis that can affect women and girls disproportionately. TSSM’s objectives are to increase access to hygienic sanitation and improved health for poor households and communities in rural villages, small towns and informal urban settlements. Additionally, the TSSM program will carry out a structured learning process to develop practical knowledge and tools for effective replication and scaling up of future programs in other countries to meet the Millennium Development Goals sanitation targets for 2015.
