Corona virus and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

We have been working in Tanzania for over 30 years to promote good hygiene, including handwashing with soap. These behaviours are crucial in the fight against COVID19.

WaterAid Tanzania has been working closely with the Tanzanian Government to help prevent the spread of COVID19 in the country. This has involved joining hands with the National Sanitation Campaign – Nyumba Ni Choo – to promote important hygiene behaviours, such as handwashing with soap for 20 seconds, as a key way to protect people from contracting the virus. The campaign has used radio, television, social media and loudspeakers as a way to reach communities with hygiene messages.

WaterAid Tanzania has also installed seven new hand washing facilities at BRT stations across Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with the University of Dar es Salaam. These hand washing facilities are contactless, and users turn on the tap with their foot, to prevent bacteria from the hands coming into contact with the tap.
